Fontaines D.C. top Albums Chart with Dopamine Chamber as Tate McRae lands her first #1 single!

Fontaines D.C. return to the top of the Official Irish Albums Chart today with their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, giving the Dublin band their second Irish #1 album following 2022’s Skinty Fia! Released on 16 October via XL Recordings, the 11-track album is the follow-up to 2024’s Romance, which reached #2 in Ireland and was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, earned them two Grammy nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Alternative Performance, and won them the 2024 Choice Music Prize. Romance would go on to be the biggest selling physical release by an Irish act in both 2024 and 2025, and Dopamine Chamber looks set to continue that success.

Produced by James Ford, who also worked on Romance, Dopamine Chamber sees the five-piece continue to expand their sound through synthesiser, samples, strings and electronic production. Lead single Marianne, announced with a video directed by Dave Meyers, whose credits include Kendrick Lamar’s HUMBLE and Travis Scott’s SICKO MODE, currently sits at #4 on the Irish Singles Chart and tops the Homegrown Chart. Follow-up single Where Is Gone?, a duet with Spanish global pop star Rosalía, is at #6, while album track Japan debuts at #5 this week.

The release comes as the band prepare for their biggest Irish show to date headlining Slane Castle on June 26 and 27, 2027, becoming only the third Irish act to headline the venue after Thin Lizzy in 1981 and U2 in 2001. The announcement was teased at the close of their headline set at Electric Picnic on August 30. Support comes from Hayley Williams, Damien Dempsey and Madra Salach.
