BASHT. top the Independent Chart with debut album Poor Advice!
Dublin post-punk four-piece Basht. debut at #7 on the IRMA Official Irish Albums Chart and top the Independent Chart today with their debut album Poor Advice, released October 9 via LAB Records!
The band comprises Jack Leavey (vocals, guitar), Lughaidh Armstrong Mayock (lead guitar), Ryan McClelland (drums) and Louis Christle (bass). Leavey and Christle have been the core of the project since forming in 2021, with Armstrong Mayock and McClelland, who had previously played together in Sky Atlas, coming on board ahead of the album. The band released two EPs before the album: Dirty White Lies in March 2024 and Bitter and Twisted in May 2025, the latter produced by Richard McNamara of Embrace, which drew widespread press attention and led to a sold-out UK headline tour. Support slots for Wunderhorse, DEADLETTER, Everything Everything and Miles Kane followed, alongside festival appearances at The Great Escape, Truck, Rock Werchter, Leeds, Boardmasters and Other Voices, and a debut at SXSW in March 2026.
Produced by Ali Chant, known for his work with PJ Harvey, Perfume Genius and Dry Cleaning, Poor Advice is a ten-track concept album addressing institutional authority, the legacy of the Catholic Church in Ireland and the influence of the military industrial complex. Three singles preceded the release: Perfume in April, Keira Knightley in June and Terror TV in August, followed by Kids Vs Guns in September. Basht. headline the Button Factory on Saturday November 7, a sold-out show with particular significance for Leavey, whose father ran the venue when it was the Temple Bar Music Centre.
