MADONNA debuts at #2 on the IRMA Albums Chart today with Confessions II, her 15th studio album, released 3 July via Warner Records, narrowly pipped to the top spot by Olivia Rodrigo’s you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, now in its fourth week at #1. It is her first album in seven years, following 2019’s Madame X, and a sequel to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, reuniting her with producer Stuart Price. Additional production credits include Martin Garrix, Cirkut, Andrew Watt, Mirwais Ahmadzaï, Arca, and Parisi. The 17-track album features guest appearances from Sabrina Carpenter, Feid, Stromae, and Madonna’s eldest daughter Lourdes Leon.
Opening track I Feel So Free reached #1 on the Billboard Dance Airplay chart, becoming Madonna’s first #1 hit on a Billboard radio chart in 18 years. Bring Your Love, featuring Sabrina Carpenter, was debuted live at Coachella marking 20 years since Madonna’s festival debut, and subsequently topped the UK Club Chart. Danceteria, released today, pays tribute to the legendary New York club of the same name where Madonna began her career in the early 1980s, co-produced with Andrew Watt and Cirkut. Madonna will also co-headline the first-ever halftime show at the FIFA World Cup 26 Final on 19 July at New York New Jersey Stadium, with an expected global audience exceeding 1.5 billion viewers.
Confessions II: The Film, directed by TORSO and premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival on 25 June, brings the album’s first six songs to life in what Rolling Stone described as a surrealistic visual project. The night before the premiere, Madonna performed a surprise concert in Times Square, announced just 30 minutes beforehand, drawing an estimated 50,000 fans.
